Love Mantras Healed My Past
What inspired you to try love affirmations?
I kept hearing about courses that focus on self-love and embracing different kinds of love in your life, but it was a while before I decided to sign up. I chose the Path of Love course, as I’d had lots of experience in the world of tantra and group therapy and thought it would be great to have another positive experience. The timing felt right to make this leap, as I had just turned 50. I needed help with moving forward and recalibrating my mind, body and spirit and hoped this process would help.
How have love affirmations become part of your daily life?
You begin your day with a dynamic meditation at around 7am, and later in the evening you also take time to sit and meditate. This gives you the space to embrace the day ahead, and then take time to reflect later on before going to bed. You also repeat mantras that help promote positivity. I learnt how to embrace this way of life through the Path of Love course. Through the affirmations, I tackled personal pain from my past, regrets, doubts and fears. I felt liberated because I began to distinguish my head from my heart so I could connect with my innermost self. The course also encouraged participants to exercise contemplative silence, which is tough, yet really rewarding. Embracing vegetarian food and a diet detox were also part of the course and made a difference to my emotional well-being.
Have you changed as a result?
Yes, it has made me feel really different. I hope to stay in touch with the new people I’ve welcomed into my life, and also plan big dietary changes. I want to live my life with more awareness of love and to be less preoccupied with my fears. I’m an author but had felt uninspired for eighteen months. Now I feel liberated in a creative sense, and through the new skills I gained at the course, I have blasted away my negativity. I wrote a poem in a week, which I know will be the seeds of a new story. I also came back ready to attack the novel I had been stuck with. Overall, my energy has changed and my focus has been restored. The anxieties I arrived with have disappeared and I feel clearer on my career ambitions. One of the things I have promised to myself is to make time for me (despite being very busy and a social butterfly). I’ve realised I need more time to write and reflect and do little things like taking a bath, going for a walk or indulging in meditation.
How is your outlook on life different?
After seven days, I felt my heart had opened up. Reading back, the early notes I took during the course said things like, ‘how can a course like this change my life?’. Six days later, I was writing things, ‘I loved today.’ Even now, I still feel earthed and connected to my heart rather than overwhelmed with all the thoughts and concerns in my head. It’s been life-changing.
